Depression 7

These scriptures and thoughts were provided or inspired by my Pastor, Kent McBay and by others in discussions in his Sunday School class.

Extended regret and sorrow can weaken us spiritually.

Nehemiah 8:10: Then he said unto them, Go your way, eat the fat, and drink the sweet, and send portions unto them for whom nothing is prepared: for this day is holy unto our Lord: neither be ye sorry; for the joy of the LORD is your strength.

Raising children without loving Bible instruction and discipline can cause intense and long-term depression.

Proverbs 10:1: The proverbs of Solomon. A wise son maketh a glad father: but a foolish son is the heaviness of his mother.

Proverbs 15:20: A wise son maketh a glad father: but a foolish man despiseth his mother.

Proverbs 17:21: He that begetteth a fool doeth it to his sorrow: and the father of a fool hath no joy.

Proverbs 17:25: A foolish son is a grief to his father, and bitterness to her that bare him.

Proverbs 19:13a: A foolish son is the calamity of his father: . . .

Proverbs 22:6: Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.

Ephesians 6:4: And, ye fathers, provoke not your children to wrath: but bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord.

Proverbs 29:15: The rod and reproof give wisdom: but a child left to himself bringeth his mother to shame.

Compare carefully the results God*s servants get with the depressing results those get who forsake Him, ignore Him and disobey Him.

Isaiah 65:11-14: But ye are they that forsake the LORD, that forget my holy mountain, that prepare a table for that troop, and that furnish the drink offering unto that number. 12 Therefore will I number you to the sword, and ye shall all bow down to the slaughter: because when I called, ye did not answer; when I spake, ye did not hear; but did evil before mine eyes, and did choose that wherein I delighted not. 13 Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD, Behold, my servants shall eat, but ye shall be hungry: behold, my servants shall drink, but ye shall be thirsty: behold, my servants shall rejoice, but ye shall be ashamed: 14 Behold, my servants shall sing for joy of heart, but ye shall cry for sorrow of heart, and shall howl for vexation of spirit.
